Frontline Developments was set up by Tim and Sally Fenna in 1992.
Tim had suffered repeated gearbox failures while driving his well-tuned Spridget. Being a talented engineer, he solved the problem by developing a rugged five-speed gearbox conversion. News spread like wildfire and soon the conversion was in demand from other Spridget owners with hundreds now in use.
There followed equally popular upgrades for suspension, brakes and engine – a comprehensive range of Frontline Spridget products catering for all Austin Healey Sprites and MG Midgets.
The clamour for more power was seemingly insatiable. The result for Spridget owners was an innovative installation featuring the acclaimed Rover K-series engine. The Frontline K conversion was the first of its type and remains the best. It can be used to modernise the drive train from a standard K-Series engine with a modest 120bhp to a highly-tuned, fire-breathing 250bhp. The ultimate upgrade for the Sprite and Midget.
Meanwhile, Tim did not enjoy the driving experience of Sally’s 1962 MGB Roadster as much as the Spridget. This prompted him to look at MGB suspension conversions.
Ken Costello had developed a comprehensive and coherent package to transform the MGB, complementing those conversions under development by Frontline, and in 2001 these two long-established, highly regarded MG tuning businesses joined forces.
Both product lines share a tradition of high-quality, innovative engineering and are designed to improve the classic cars to which they are dedicated.
Frontline has gone on to develop a package that can completely transform the performance of your car – from handling and roadholding to gearbox and engine characteristics – while maintaining its classic looks and character.
And we have even developed our 5-speed conversions for the Triumph Spitfire and GT6. So give your classic conversion a head start at Frontline.
